The Neighborhood Speed Watch Program
encourages safe and prudent driving by motorists
traveling on neighborhood streets.
Neighborhood Speed Controls
Speeding on residential streets is one
of the more common complaints received by the Department
of Transportation.
The County's Neighborhood Speed Program encourages concerned citizens to take an
active role in solving speeding problems in their own
neighborhoods. Program participants use County
radar equipment to record speeds and license numbers of
vehicles exceeding the speed limit. An awareness
letter is sent by the County to drivers who were
recorded speeding, asking them to slow down.
How to Involve Your Neighborhood in the Speed Watch
Program
Residents must submit a petition to the Traffic Engineering
Section expressing their interest in
the Neighborhood Speed Watch Program.
A minimum of
six signatures is required.
A County Traffic Engineering Section staff will
meet with your group, usually at the residence of one of
the participants. The participants are instructed
in the use of the radar equipment, data collection, and
appropriate behavior. The radar unit is loaned to
the group representative.
