ILLEGAL DUMPING IN RIGHT-OF-WAY

In July 2000, the Department of Waste Management and Recycling (DWMR) and Department of Transportation (DOT) initiated an illegal dumping response team known as the "Hot Crew" to respond quickly to dumping in the right-of-way. The Hot Crew responds to street dumping within 24 hours if there is a threat to health and safety and within ten work days if there is no immediate hazard.

All reports of illegal dumping activities in the right-of-way should be directed to the Sacramento County Information Center at 875-5656.

Illegal Dumping Prevention

The County of Sacramento hauls away more than 1,500 tons of junk and rubbish from the public right-of-way every year. As a result, this drives down property values, and costs County tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

To combat illegal dumping, the County of Sacramento and the California Environmental Protection Agency's Integrated Waste Management Board joined forces in 2005 to launch a progressive program:

The Illegal Dumping Prevention Program
