Some of the challenges
which exist within the
project corridor include:
- Light Rail Train
at-grade crossing at
Folsom & Watt
- Existing UP
railroad at-grade
crossing at Folsom
& Watt
- Proximity of rail
crossings to Folsom
Boulevard
- Light Rail Station
access/park-N-ride
access
- Pedestrian/bicycle
convenience and
safety
- Truck traffic
- Weaving and
stacking of autos at
the US 50
interchange
- Noise
- Aesthetics/existing trees

Currently, traffic delays caused by road blockage as Regional Transit light rail trains cross the intersection at Watt and Folsom result in literally hundreds of hours of lost commuter time during peak driving hours every day. Photo taken July 13, 2001

|
- Watt Ave between La Riviera Dr. and Folsom Blvd
services over 80,000 vehicles per day
- During the morning peak hour north bound motorists on
Watt Ave wait for over 5 minutes to pass through the
Folsom Blvd intersection
- The average delay at Watt Ave and Folsom Blvd
intersection during the peak hour is over 2 minutes per
vehicle
- There are 4 east bound and 4 west bound light rail
trains crossing Watt Ave per peak hour which causes over
7.5 minutes per hour of closures (12% of the peak hour)
