The construction contract was awarded on May 15, 2001 to Goodfellow Brothers Inc and preliminary construction activities have already begun.

In the near future, construction of retaining walls, sound walls, storm drains, roadway embankments and widening of the interchange structure will begin. Construction is anticipated to continue through spring 2003. The I-80/Greenback Lane/Elkhorn Boulevard Interchange Modification project is funded through a local share of state transportation funds and Measure A sales taxes.
