The I-80/Greenback Lane-Elkhorn Boulevard Interchange Modification Project was a $9.5 million project designed to increase the traffic safety and efficiency of traffic flow, and aesthetically improve the appearance of the Greenback/Elkhorn corridor. The project included the following improvements:

• widening of the existing I-80 Interchange to accommodate one additional through lane in each direction on Greenback Lane and Elkhorn Boulevard between Diablo Drive and Garfield Avenue;
• widening of the I-80 on-and off-ramps, and installing meters on the on-ramps to accommodate High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes;
• widening of the existing merge lanes in both the westbound and eastbound directions on I-80;
• installation of sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of Elkhorn Boulevard/Greenback Lane through the interchange;
• construction of sound walls at adjacent residential properties to reduce traffic noise;
• construction of a raised landscaped and/or stamped concrete median down the center of the roadway and;
• placement of landscaping and architectural treatments throughout the project
