NEWS RELEASE November 17, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Dan Regan (916-874-7056) Communications & Media Officer Pothole Sweeps Week for Communities ~Pilot Program Startup in Arden Arcade~ Sacramento CA – The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SACDOT) is starting a pilot program - “Pothole Sweeps Week” - that will target specific communities for intensified pothole identification and repair. The pilot project is part of continuous efforts to improve preventative maintenance activities for unincorporated area roadways. The pilot project will start up as follows: * Week of November 20 – Inspection: Work crews will inspect all streets in Arden Arcade and mark potholes with white paint. Residents are encouraged to call SACDOT Customer Service at 875-5171 or visit www.sacdot.com/tools/eservices/ between November 24 and 27th, to report additional potholes not identified by crews. * Week of November 27 – Repair: Maintenance crews and equipment will sweep through Arden Arcade streets and repair all identified potholes. Note: These dates may change due to weather conditions. According to Tom Zlotkowski, Director of the Department of Transportation, “Potholes are a big source of frustration for motorists and for communities, and we are going forward with this pilot program to determine if a community sweep effort will substantially improve our pothole detection and repair program.” Arden Arcade is the first community to be targeted for this pilot program because it is in the center of our service area and because the age of the roadway infrastructure warrants additional attention. If the pilot program is successful, Pothole Sweeps Week (MORE) projects will be implemented for communities throughout the County. There are over 5,200 lane miles of paved roadways in the County unincorporated area and it’s inevitable that somewhere in this large area of streets there will be potholes. SACDOT’s policy is to: “Repair all potholes as soon as possible.” The Pothole Sweeps Week pilot program will enhance ongoing pavement maintenance activities which include SACDOT crews who are sent into the field Monday through Friday each week to specifically repair potholes. The crews are radio dispatched and also have cell phones to maintain contact with our Customer Service center.
